The Parkinson’s hub at Long Stone Manor, Wilmslow

The Parkinson’s hub operates every Tuesday morning from 10-12 at Long Stone Manor in Wilmslow There will be 3 exercise classes offered including a class aimed directly at the care givers. The 2 specialist exercise classes, a Lower-level class and a High level PD warrior style

Our Classes

Lower-level classes

Working on upper body strengthening, and reciprocal arm swing
Seated boxing and explosive upper limb power to reduce the effects of tremor
Leg stretches (which many ‘restless leg’ patient find invaluable), as well as lower limb strengthening, glute activation and seated marching
Trunk rotation (to aid arm swing and facilitation of bed mobility and rolling over)
Cardiovascular exercise to improve stamina, fitness and energy levels
Some seated adaptations to the PD Warrior class including voice activation to help find our ‘loud voices’
Sit to stand practise if clinically appropriate and pelvic tilt/jockey exercises for those unsafe/unable to do so.

All exercises are based around specific functional difficulties know to people living with PD
Explosive, high-effort, high-power exercise aims to reduce the bradykinetic effects of PD
Complex dual-task exercises to improve motor skills, cognition and everyday multitasking.
Dual-task exercises to improve motor skills, cognition and everyday multitasking
Goal-focused exercises tailored to each person’s Parkinson’s symptoms, based on an individual physio assessment
Cardiovascular work to boost overall fitness, stamina and energy
Holistic exercises including voice work to strengthen speech and swallowing muscles
